Traditional Jalebi Recipe at Home | Make Traditional Jalebi

Ingredients for jalebi recipe

  • All-purpose flour – 3 cup
  • Thickened yogurt (curd) – 2 cup
  • Ghee – 1/2 cup
  • Sugar – 3 cup
  • Saffron strand – 5
  • Green cardamom – 1/2 Tsp (powdered)
  • Corn flour – 1/2 cup
  • Baking soda – a pinch
  • Sunflower oil – 2 cup
  • Water – 2 1/2 cup
  • Rose essence – 4 drops
  • Edible food color – 1/2 teaspoon


For making jalebi batter

  • Take a bowl, mix maida, corn flour and baking soda
  • Add the ghee and orange food color to the above mixture and mix well
  • Add curd and water to it and make a thick batter
  • Mix well until the mixture become thick but also has a pouring consistency
  • Keep the batter aside for 8 hours or overnight

For making the sugar syrup

  • Heat a pan, add water and boil it on medium flame. Add sugar into it and mix until fully dissolved.
  • Boil it on a low flame until the syrup has one string consistency. Now add saffron, cardamom powder and rose essence, mix well

Method for making jalebi

  • Take a pan/kadai, Heat oil over medium flame for deep frying
  • Fill the Jalebi batter in a muslin cloth and pierce a small hole in it or you can also use squeeze bottle instead of muslin cloth
  • Now squeeze the muslin cloth to make concentric circles. To make perfect circles move from outside to inside
  • Fry them till the jalebis become crisp and golden
  • Drain and soak the jalebis in sugar syrup for 2-3 minutes. Make sure that the sugar syrup is warm and not very hot
  • Now remove jalebi from the syrup and place on a tray/plate lined with butter paper or foil
  • Tasty jalebis are ready to be served
  • Serve hot, warm or at room temperature
  • You can also decorate them with silver foil
