Ingredients for Rajma Masala Recipe

  • Kidney Beans – 1 cup (soaked overnight)
  • Oil – 4 Tbsp
  • Onions – 2 medium (finely chopped)
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 2 Tbsp
  • Coriander powder – 2 Tsp
  • Cumin powder – 1 Tsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 Tsp
  • Tomato puree – 1/2 cup
  • Garam masala powder – 1 1/2 Tsp
  • Fresh coriander leaves – 1 Tbsp (chopped)
  • Salt to taste


  • Drain the kidney beans, wash it in some fresh water and cook it in a pressure cooker by adding 5 cups of water and salt to taste
  • Cook the kidney beans under pressure till 4-5 whistles are given out
  • Drain it and reserve the cooking liquor
  • Heat oil in a non-stick pan and add onions, sauté them until light brown
  • Now add ginger-garlic paste and sauté it for a couple of minutes
  • Add the coriander powder, cumin powder and chilli powder and stir well
  • Now add tomato puree and mix well again, sauté it for 3-4 minutes
  • Add cooked kidney beans and stir well
  • Add 1 cup of cooking liquor and salt to taste and mix well
  • Now mash the kidney beans a bit and mix again
  • Add garam masala powder and mix well and allow it cook for 5-7 minutes on a medium flame
  • Serve it in a serving bowl, garnish it with some chopped coriander leaves and serve hot
