Navaratri vidhi known as festival of sharannavarathri, for nine days matha Parvathi the prime deity and goddess is revered in different forms by the devout Hindus. First day of navratri pooja

goddess maa Shilaputri devi

 

The first day is dedicated to worship goddess maa Shilaputri devi, the daughter of mountains. She is highly radiant comparable to crores of moons and rides on a bull. She carries a trident and wears a half-moon on her forehead. Mantra for worshiping maa shilaputri is

“Om Devi Shailputryai Swaha
Vande Vanchhit Laabhaay,
Chandrardhkritshekharaam |
Vrisharudham Shooldharaam Shailputriim Yashaswinim ||”

Second day of navratri pooja

Brahmacharini devi

The second day is meant to worship the goddess Brahmacharini devi, the goddess who is a unmarried and the form of knowledge. She carries a rosary and kamandalu in her both hands. She gives eternal bliss and the knowledge of supreme self. The Mantra for goddess brahmacharini devi is

“Om Devi Brahmcharinyai Namah
Dadhaanaa Kar Padmaabhyaamakshmala Kamandaloo |
Devi Prasidatu Mayi Brahmcharinyanuttamaa.”

Third day of navratri pooja

Chandraghanta devi

The third day is dedicated to worship maa Chandraghanta devi, who rides on a tiger and her forehead is decorated with half moon. The Mantra for goddess Chandraghanta devi is

“Om Devi Chandraghantayayi Namah
Pindaj Pravaarudh chandkopastrkairyuta |
Prasadam Tanute Madhyam Chandraghanteti vishrutaa ||”

Fourth day of navratri pooja

Kushmanda devi

The fourth day is meant to worship goddess Kushmanda devi, she is the creator of the universe. She rides on a lion and carries seven weapons and also carries a rosary in her eight hands. The Mantra for maa kushmanda devi is

“Om Devi Kushmandayayi Namah
Suraasampoorna Kalasham Rudhiraaplutamev Cha |
Dadhaanaa Hastpadmaabhyaam Kushmanda Shubhdaastu Me ||”

Fifth day of navratri pooja

Skandamata devi

The fifth day is dedicated to the worship of goddess Skandamata devi,she is the mother of Lord Subrahmanya (Karthikeya). Maa skandamata devi rides on a lion and has the six faced Skanda on her laps. The mantra for maa skandamata devi is

“Om Devi Skandmatayayi Namah
Sinhaasangataam Nityam Padmaanchit Kardwayaa |
Shubhdaastu Sadaa Devi Skandmata Yashaswini ||”

Sixth day of navratri mantra

Kathyayani devi

On the sixth day, the goddess Kathyayani devi is worshipped, she is manifested as a result of the prayers of sage Katyayan. She rides on a lion, carries ten weapons; she also has three eyes and a half moon on her forehead. The Mantra for maa kathyayani devi is

“Om Devi Katyayanyayi Namah
Chandrahaasojjval Karaa Shaardoolvarvaahanaa |
Katyayani Shubham Dadyaad Devi Daanavghatini ||”

Seventh day of navratri

maa Kalrathridevi

Seventh day is meant to worship maa Kalrathridevi, she is a strange incarnation of the mother in which she has removed all her golden skin and looks shiny black. She is rides on an ass. She carries a torch and also carries a sword with blessing and boon giving poses. The Mantra for goddess kalrathri devi is

“Om Devi Kalratryayi Namah
Ekveni Japakarnpoora Nagna Kharaasthita |
Lamboshthi Karnika karni Tailaabhyaktshariirini ||

Navratri eighth day mantra

Mahagauri devi

Eighth day is dedicated to worship maa Mahagauri devi. Maa mahagauri is youthful in her sixteenth year and rides on a bull holding trident and also carries a damaru. She wears white clothes and her face is like that of the cool moon. The Mantra for goddess mahagauri devi is

“Om Devi Mahagauryayi Namah
Shwete Vrishesamarudha Shwetaambardhara Shuchih |
Mahagauri Shubham Dadyanmahadev Pramodadaa ||”

Ninth day of Navratri

iddhidatri devi

On the ninth day maa Siddhidatri devi is worshipped. This manifestation was occurred when the mother entered the half body of Lord Shiva. She is seated on a red lotus and she also rides on a lion. She holds conch, mace and a lotus in her four hands. The Mantra for goddess siddhidatri devi is

“Om Devi Siddhidatryayi Namah
Siddha Gandharva Yakshdyairasurairamarairapi |
Sevyamaanaa Sadabhuyaat Siddhida Siddhidayini ||”
