Khaman Dhokla Recipe

Ingredients for Khaman Dhokla Recipe

  • Gram flour (besan) – 2 cups
  • Curd – 1 cup (beaten)
  • Turmeric powder – ½ Tsp
  • Lemon juice – 1 Tbsp
  • Soda bicarbonate – 1 Tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 Tsp
  • Green chilli and ginger paste – 1 Tsp
  • Fresh coriander leaves – 2 Tbsp (chopped)
  • Coconut – ½ cup (scraped)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil – 2 Tbsp


  • Take a bowl add gram flour, curd and approximately one cup of warm water and mix well make sure no lumps are formed
  • Add salt to taste and mix well, keep it aside for 3-4 hours
  • Once gram flour mixture has fermented, add turmeric and green chilli-ginger paste, Mix well
  • Meanwhile, heat the steamer and grease a thali
  • Take a small bowl, add lemon juice, soda bicarbonate, 1Tsp of oil and stir well
  • Add this to the batter and whisk briskly
  • Now pour the batter into the greased thali and place the thali in the steamer
  • Cover the steamer with the lid and steam it for 10 minutes
  • Finally, allow the dhokla to little cool, cut it into small squares and serve the tasty dhoklas in a serving plate
  • Now heat the remaining oil in a small pan. Add mustard seeds as they begin to crackle remove it from flame and pour over the prepared dhoklas.
  • Garnish the dhoklas with chopped coriander leaves and scraped coconut, serve hot
