How to Make Garelu Crispy – Vada Recipe

  • Vada is a famous south Indian recipe. It is very simple and tasty recipe, specially made in festival days as prasadam for god
  • (Note: don’t add water while grinding urad dhal)


Ingredients for Vada recipe /garelu recipe


  • Urad dhal – 1 cup (soaked for 6hrs)
  • Ginger – 1 inch (finely chopped)
  • Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
  • Green chilli – 2 (finely chopped)
  • Curry leaf – 1 spring (finely chopped)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep fry



  • First grind urad dal and make a smooth batter of it keep it aside
  • Take a deep bowl add chopped onions, green chilli, ginger, curry leaf and salt to taste mix well
  • Add urad dal batter in that bowl mix well
  • Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan for deep fry
  • Now moist your palm, take a small portion of the batter in your hand and make a hole using your thumb gentle upturn your hand and drop the batter carefully in the oil
  • Deep fry the vada in medium flame until it turns golden colour
  • Transfer it on a tissue paper to remove excess oil
  • Serve it in a serving plate
  • Serve hot with sambar, chutney or with payasam
